03. Material Installation

Remote pumping holds the following cartridges:

Local pumping holds the following cartridges:

Purge material is always pumped remotely. Use instructions for "Installing a new cartridge on remote pumping" for purge material installation.

Ensure that correct preconditioning procedure is completed prior to material installation and the correct deposition mode is set in the settings tab of the NCUI.

Installing a new cartridge on remote pumping

See following items and tools required for remote material installation:

Items

Tools

  • Torque wrench

Always wear proper PPE (gloves and safety glasses) when coming in contact with materials.
  1. Connect one end of the remote pumping hose to the correct connector on the printhead.
The positions are shown below and are physically labelled with stickers. Hose designations will be labelled with shrink wrap.

    Tighten with the torque wrench.

  2. Route the hose through the pipe on the roof of the ActiveLab™ printer.

Ensure that hoses are able to slide through the pipe to allow slack during printhead movement.

  3. Open the side window of the printer and connect each hose to the corresponding material position on the remote pumping assembly. See shrink wrapped labeling on hoses for locations and observe the material positions (marked by blue letters).

  4. Take off the 32oz cartridge lid and stand the 32oz cartridge on its wide end.

  5. Remove the outlet cap and install the inlet fitting in its place using the adjustable wrench by turning clockwise.

  6. Insert the cartridge into the 32oz cartridge retainer.

  7. Flip the cartridge and retainer so the inlet fitting faces downward and quickly install it on the remote pumping assembly. Insert the cartridge body into the retaining bracket midway up the remote assembly.

Immediately tighten inlet fitting with adjustable wrench by turning clockwise.

If purge material, install on Location 1 on remote pumping assembly.
If 32oz cartridge, install A-B-C-D in locations shown below.

  8. Locate the 32oz retainer caps (with attached tubing) and connect to the push releases at the midplane of the remote pumping assembly.

Pull on tubing lightly to ensure that the connection is secure.

  9. Attach retainer cap to retainer by aligning the flap of the retainer cap with the slot on the retainer, marked by an upward arrow. Push down as far as it will slide and rotate clockwise until the two arrows (and lock symbol) align.

The retainer cap arrow might be slightly to the LEFT of the retainer arrow.

  10. Turn ball valve handle at the bottom of the assembly from the horizontal to the vertical position in order to allow flow of material from the cartridge to the printhead.

  11. Close the side window once all materials have been installed and all ball valves have been turned to the vertical position.

Installing a new cartridge on local pumping

See following items and tools required for local material installation:

Tools

  • Adjustable wrench
Always wear proper PPE (gloves and safety glasses) when coming in contact with materials.
  1. Access the local pumping assembly on the printhead through the front door of the printer.

  2. Locate the 6oz cartridge, take off the 6oz cartridge lid and stand it on its wide end.

  3. Remove the outlet cap and install the inlet fitting in its place using the torque wrench.

  4. Place the 6oz cartridge retainer on the cartridge while it is standing on its wide end.

  5. Flip the cartridge and retainer so the inlet fitting faces downward and quickly install it on the local pumping assembly on the printhead.

    Immediately
tighten inlet fitting with adjustable wrench by turning clockwise.
